Brutality 兽行
Yet another detainee died in Police custody. A 23-year old Indian youth died in Police custody at the Taipan Police Station, subang Jaya. He was detained for alleged involvement in a car theft syndicate.
The body was sent to Serdang Hospital for post mortem. The Selangor Chief of Police gave the cause of death as "water in the lung". Some family members barged into the mortuary and taken pictures to uncover the "cover up" of Police.（with cuts and injuries on body and limbs)
The family lodged reports against the Police for the death (murder)of the youth and against the Police Chief for lying.
At the meantime, Police also recorded statement from various people, including two Indian Deputy Ministers, regarding the "illegal" barging into the Hospital mortuary.
Statistics showed that there were a total of 1,535 custodial deaths in the country between 2003 and 2007.
This family is lucky to have his son's body. A detainee (Indian man)at Brickfields Police station was reportedly "jumped" into Klang river under Police detention about two years ago. The body was never found. The mother is pursuing a civil action against the Police for killing their son with help from some human right NGOs.
又一宗嫌犯死在警局扣留所中。一名23岁的印度青年，死在梳邦大班区警察局扣留所里。他是因涉嫌偷车集团案而被警察扣留两个星期协助调查。
他的尸体被送到沙登医院解剖。根据雪兰莪总警长透露，他的死因是“肺有水”（哮喘）。家人不相信，而闯入沙登医院停尸房，并拍摄了许多照片，以证明警方撒谎及企图掩盖事实。(身体及手有许多伤口及伤痕）

The Chinese Malaysian business community is pessimistic about the nation's economic outlook in a survey conducted by The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) focusing on the economic situation of the country for the second half of 2008.
"Three quarters (77 percent) of the respondents are pessimistic or somewhat pessimistic with regards to the Malaysian economic outlook in the medium term i.e. in the next two to three years whereas 22 percent are optimistic or somewhat optimistic," says the report.
On employee retrenchments, 47 percent said they intended to reduce their workforce in view of the current economic scenario while 52 percent would maintain their current workforce.
An overwhelming majority (89 percent) also expressed concern over public safety in the country.
News of retrenchment appears daily. The latest is the shutting down of factories in Penang, Philipines and the US by Intel. Intel intends to close two test facilities in Penang.
According to the figures released by the Statistic Department, November 2008 saw about 11000 employee being retrenched.
Many workers are forced to take longer Chinese New Year holidays. Many fear jobless after the festival.

I grew up in a new village at Kampong Baru Batu 8, Labu, Negri Sembilan. It is situated half way between Seremban and Nilai. Few years ago, it was renamed Kg. Seri, Labu.
A month or two ago, out of the blue, it was in the news that a new low cost airport will be built in Labu!!
As a layman, I am puzzled such an important infrastructure project was conceived and decided in such a short time.
Then it dawn on me that "ada kerja, ada wang". The classic Malaysia formula. Siapa dapat kerja? definitely not me and you. Siapa dapat wang? Not you and me either. Well, may be someone who is going to be out of job soon, get the job while he can-lah!

By-election 补选
Kuala Terengganu (KT) Parliamentary by-election on 17/1/09 was won by PAS with a higher majority. This is a slap on the face of....ehh..ee not Abudullah, but Najib! Abdullah flew off to Gulf states for "makan angin" visit in the afternoon of the polling day.Despite of the concentration of high fire power of Barisan National machinery, millions of Ringgit pumped in- from both the Government and BN, this is a failed buy-election for the BN.
As always, BN applied the usual formula: money, stick, money, threat, money and more money. It is an outdated formula.
The Chinese which consists of about 11% of the voters in this constituency, voted smartly by voting the BN (60%) for their own good. However, they do not reflect the general sentiments of the Chinese population at large. It is the Malays that voted against the BN a.k.a UMNO. A strong message that UMNO would not take it for granted, any more.
Some interesting facts appeared in many blogs on this buy-election:
1. The Returning officer of this by-election resigned few days before polling. Mat Razali Kassim who is also the Datuk Bandar of Kuala Terengganu, was accused of campaigning for the BN, He threatened council staff to vote for the BN.
2. Many big dinner hosted by component parties. An 80-tables dinner hosted by Gerakan is one of them.
3. Money spent lavishly to garner vote. Certain party went to the markets, bought a papaya (or other item), paid RM200.00..."keep the change". Many media reporters also given cash in envelope. Blatant money politic.
4. The Oppositions advised the voters: take the BN money, vote for PAS. Words had it that the voter must use their mobile phone to capture the image of the ballot paper where a cross has been marked in favour of the BN candidate before he/she can collect the RM1,000 cash reward.
5. Umno has come up with raffles to draw the crowd. Lucky draw prizes include motorcycles and big TVs.
6. The most ministers, heads of political parties, members of Parliament (especially from Oppositions), police personnel (6500) by-election of recent time.
Listen to the voice of the people, the voice of change. Same old monkeys, same old peanuts, same old tactics, same old tricks, same old ways are useless today. The ending is definitely no more the same.
The DPM Najib today warned BN leaders (including himself) to change to be in tune with the wishes of the people, failing which ‘punishment awaits in the next general election'.
He is worry. Thinking of himself switching place with Anwar Ibrahim as the new Opposition leader after the next General Election is a frightening scenario but a real possibility!
Najib must be having frequent nightmare after 117 KT failed buy-election.
17/1/09 瓜拉登加楼区国会议席补选，回教党以更高的多数票，打败国阵而获胜。这无形中是在。。喔哦。。不是阿都拉，是纳吉的脸上，刮了个耳光！阿都拉在投票当天的下午，已飞往海湾国家“吃风”访问。
国阵在这次补选中，集中了最猛烈的参选火力，还投入了数以千万计的钞票（来自政府及国阵），还是不能赢了这场补（钱之）选。
一如以往，国阵引用了惯用的手段：钱，木棒，钱，恐吓，钱，再加多钱。但这已是一个过时的方程式，现在已经不管用了。
华人在这个选区，只占登记选民的大约十一巴仙，但他们却很精明的投给国阵，为了他们本身利益，至少留下一个后路，但他们并不能代表全国的华人的心声。事实上，是马来人不支持国阵，或更准确的说，是反对巫统。这是一个很强大讯息，巫统绝不会再忽视了。
这里有几个在部落格里找到的有趣事实：
1. 这次补选的选举官 Mat Razali Kassim，本身也是瓜拉登加楼的市长，在投票日前三天，突然辞职。他被反对党指责为国阵助选。他滥用市长地位，恐吓市议会员工，必须支持国阵。
2. 许多免费的大型宴会招待选民。民政党的80席的宴会是其中之一项。
3. 大派金钱。一个政党的人员，到菜市场购买一粒木瓜（或其他物品），掏出 200 元，吩咐档主，不必找了。新闻从业员也收到钞票。目中无人的金钱政治。
4. 反对党劝告选民，照拿国阵的钞票，但选票投给回教党。为此，消息传出，选民必须用电话照相机，拍下他们的选票，的确是在国阵天枰旁打叉，才能够领到马币一千元。（等于一张票一千元）
5. 巫统举办幸运抽奖，奖品丰富，包括摩托单车和电视机。
6. 这个补选，最多部长 、政党领袖 、国会议员（尤其是反对党），警察（6500人）的参与。
是时候好好的聆听人民的声音，要改变的声音。同样的老猴子，同样的花生，同样的花招，同样的伎俩 、同样的方法，都不管用了。故事的结局，当然是不一样了！
今天新闻报导，副首相纳吉警告国阵的领袖（包括他自己）必须改变，了解人民的心声和意愿，不然“在下一次大选，惩罚将会等待我们”
他当然害怕。想到在下一届大选过后，他将和安华对换角色，成为反对党领袖，是个非常可怕，但确是有可能的局面。
我想，纳吉在117 瓜登失败的补（钱之）选过后，常常会有噩梦。

Six more days to Chinese New Year. I called it a "frenzy period".
Everyone is rushing... getting ready for the celebrations of the Chinese New Year!
Cars move faster, drivers are less patient. The weather is hot, easily agitated and short temper. Robbers, snatch-thieves are on the lookout for easy targets.
So drive carefully. Be more alert, be it driving or walking on the road.
Do not rush. Be patient. Have a peaceful and joyful Chinese New Year.
再多六天，就是华人农历新年。我称这段期间为“疯狂时期”。
每个人都很匆忙。。。为了准备欢庆新年！
车也行驶的更快，司机更没耐心。天气燥热，使人更容易发脾气。强盗 、掠夺匪徒也是落力寻找容易的目标。
所以，小心驾驶。路上驾驶或步行，都要提高警惕。
不要匆忙，有耐心。愿你过一个平安 、快乐的新年。

For new year...过新年 (2)
It is 11:00 pm. I am listening to a radio programme on Ai FM (Mandarin) featuring Sr. Theresa Chew ( Blogger soulforparadise) and Sinchew Daily Columnist, Zhang Li De on topic "how Catholics celebrate Chinese New Year". It is a two-hour programme (8:00pm-10:00 pm.) While listening, I also do blogging... the following post-->
To feel and rub on New Year atmosphere, my wife and I, together with Adeline, went to Atria Shopping Complex at Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya. We avoided the more popular places like Mid-valley, Jusco.... because of the expected heavy traffic.
The place was a bit quiet. Obviously another declining shopping complex knocked out by the newer and bigger ones.
But to our surprises, on the center stage, a group from Full Gospel Businessman Fellowship were singing Christian songs praising God.
"It is the best time to praise and thank God on the New Year..." "Jesus is the Star!" "Because he lives, I can face tomorrow...".
Instead of "Gong Xi Fa Cai"..." Money rolling rolling..." "Happy New Year, 888888..." during this festive season, they sing Alleluia to the Lord, they gave thanks and praises to the Lord. I clapped for them. I admired them. I respect them for their faith and courage. I am proud of this group of fellow Christian brothers. The Lord's name is glorified.
It is almost twelve midnight and the programme is ending. Well done to the two of them. They have shared with the listeners how Catholics celebrate Chinese New Year, the importance of keeping traditions; reunion means forgiveness and reconciliation. They also dispelled the misconception of Christians do not celebrate Chinese New year (Christmas is new year to Christians) and paying respect to ancestors during Chinese New Year.
现在是晚上十一时。我正在收听 AiFM 电台节目。今晚的“乡音考古思想起”节目嘉宾是周莉娜修女（为天堂的灵魂部落格主人）和星洲日报专栏笔者张立德，主题是：天主教徒如何庆祝农历新年。 这是两个小时的节目。一边听，一边写我的部落格帖子如下：
为了感受及擦擦新年的气息，我和太太及女儿到八打灵的 ATRIA 购物中心走走。我们不去较大的如谷中城等，是要避开交通阻塞。
这个中心不是很热闹，人潮不多。看来这又是一间被更新 、更大的购物中心淘汰出去的一间“老”购物场。
不过我们很惊讶的看到一组来自全备福音商人联谊会的成员在购物中心的舞台上，高唱赞美歌。
“新年是最好赞美及感谢天主的时候了” “耶稣是明星”“因他活着，我能面对明天。。”
在这新年佳节要到来的时候，不是唱“恭喜发财” “财源滚滚来。。” “快乐新年发发发”，而是唱“阿肋路亚”，感谢赞美天主。我为他们拍掌。我尊敬他们，赞赏他们的勇敢。我为这群基督兄弟们感觉骄傲。天主的名受到光荣！
十二点了，节目也结束了。非常的好，他们两位把天主教徒如何庆祝新年，新年的意义，传统的重要，都和听众分享了，这包括我们新年祭祖 、宽恕 、 和好 、团圆 、感恩等的意义及文化 、 神学基础，很清楚的道了出来。很成功的节目。

For new year...过新年 (2)
It is 11:00 pm. I am listening to a radio programme on Ai FM (Mandarin) featuring Sr. Theresa Chew ( Blogger soulforparadise) and Sinchew Daily Columnist, Zhang Li De on topic "how Catholics celebrate Chinese New Year". It is a two-hour programme (8:00pm-10:00 pm.) While listening, I also do blogging... the following post-->
To feel and rub on New Year atmosphere, my wife and I, together with Adeline, went to Atria Shopping Complex at Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya. We avoided the more popular places like Mid-valley, Jusco.... because of the expected heavy traffic.
The place was a bit quiet. Obviously another declining shopping complex knocked out by the newer and bigger ones.
But to our surprises, on the center stage, a group from Full Gospel Businessman Fellowship were singing Christian songs praising God.
"It is the best time to praise and thank God on the New Year..." "Jesus is the Star!" "Because he lives, I can face tomorrow...".
Instead of "Gong Xi Fa Cai"..." Money rolling rolling..." "Happy New Year, 888888..." during this festive season, they sing Alleluia to the Lord, they gave thanks and praises to the Lord. I clapped for them. I admired them. I respect them for their faith and courage. I am proud of this group of fellow Christian brothers. The Lord's name is glorified.
It is almost twelve midnight and the programme is ending. Well done to the two of them. They have shared with the listeners how Catholics celebrate Chinese New Year, the importance of keeping traditions; reunion means forgiveness and reconciliation. They also dispelled the misconception of Christians do not celebrate Chinese New year (Christmas is new year to Christians) and paying respect to ancestors during Chinese New Year.

I have a motorcycle which I seldom use. I used it for errant in town on weekends only.(to beat traffic jam).
This evening, I took the motorcycle out for a warm-up round my housing estate. I met Mr. Puspanathan (64), my BEC member. He was out for a walk with a walking stick.
Mr. Puspanathan worked as a security guard. He worked hard and brought up four children. His eldest daughter is a lawyer, second son an accountant and third daughter a teacher. His youngest son has just completed Form Six.
One day 5 years ago, while he was travelling on his company van, it was banged by a lorry. The van caught fire. He escaped with severe injuries - broken legs and bones.
He retired on medical ground and remained home bound for more than three years. Walking was painful for him. His legs were supported by steel rods.
About nine months ago, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He underwent chemotherapy. Lately, lumps formed on his neck. Currently he is undergoing radiotherapy to shrink the lumps.
"I am suffering.."
"Are you in pain?"
"No, but I am suffering. I asked God to take me away.."
"But you looked OK.., in fact looked better than before.."
"That is what every body said. But I am suffering... I have no peace..I know I will have to suffer pain..."
"You have undergone chemotherapy. You survived. You have no pain... you should enjoy life everyday...."
"Thank God I have no pain. I heard this cancer will make you suffer.."
"Don't think so much... you have no pain, you can walk... your son and a daughter have got married. You should be happy."
"I slogged so hard my whole life. Most of the time my meal was two pieces of Roti Chanai and a teh-O. No holiday, no leave. Now supposed to enjoy life but you see.... accident...now cancer. I am suffering.. I cannot enjoy..."

"Yes. Because I got toothache, my mother told me to puff on a cigarette and hold the smoke in the month... to kill the worm. That's how I got hooked to smoking"
"For now, don't worry how the cancer has spread. Just be thankful, enjoy everyday, don't think so much, trust in God... take care"

Mr. Puspanathan was very reluctant to come out of the house after the accident. I am happy to see him come out to exercise. He looks better, happier- surprisingly, after he has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

growing old 老年
Visited two old folks recently.
Mdm. M (80+) was sent to an old folk's home temporary by her children because of her worsening asthmatic condition. She stays alone, mentally alert and able to look after herself. Due to her constant fainting spell, the children put her in the home so that she can receive good care.
It was a private-run home with more than 60 inmates. Most of them were having medical conditions such as stroke, amputated limb, half-paralyzed, senile, wheel-chair bound and bed-ridden. Mischief and quarrel were common among the inmates.
The place was very clean with many Filipino workers but the environment is not suitable for folks with good mental faculty. Mdm M already there for about 2 months, crying and longing to go home when we visited her.
Her children took her home two days ago for the Chinese New Year. She vowed not to go back again. I too vowed not to be sent to this type of place even though it is clean and be well taken care of unless I am suffering from severe senile dementia.
We visited Mr. C today. He is also 80+ and suffering from senile dementia with distinct mental deterioration. He is bad-tempered. Constantly scolding his wife, sometimes with vulgar words. Throwing cups and plates when not happy. He chased his son-in-law away. He is no more his usual self.
His wife gets the brunt of his fury.

M 老太年已八十出，最近因严重气喘，被孩子送进一家老人院。
她独居，身体还算健康，精神机警，还能够照顾自己。但最近常常有头晕的状况，她的孩子只好送她进入这间老人院，希望能够得到更好的照顾。
这是一间私人开始的老人院，住着六十多位老人，大都有着医药状况，例如中风 、截肢 、半身不遂 、坐在轮椅上 、躺在床上的 、和患有老人痴呆症者。老人们彼此之间有摩擦，争执等，也是常事。
这里可以说是打理的很好，干净，有许多菲律宾工人在此工作。但它的环境不适合那些头脑还机警，能自己走动的老人居住。M 老太在此已经住了两个月，在我们探访她时，哭诉盼望着能够回家。
她的孩子两天前接她回家过新年。她发誓不要再到回这里来。其实我心里也在想，我真的不愿意自己被送到这个地方来，除非我得了严重的老人痴呆健忘症。
今天我们也去探望了C 老先生。他也是八十多岁了，患上老人痴呆症，并有非常显著的脑力衰退。他变的脾气暴躁，常常咒骂他的太太，有时更用粗暴 、臭话来呼喝她。在他发脾气的时候，还丢掷杯碟。他甚至驱赶他的女婿。他已经不是以往的他了。
他的太太成为他的出气筒。

The place was very clean with many Filipino workers but the environment is not suitable for folks with good mental faculty. Mdm M already there for about 2 months, crying and longing to go home when we visited her.
Her children took her home two days ago for the Chinese New Year. She vowed not to go back again. I too vowed not to be sent to this type of place even though it is clean and be well taken care of unless I am suffering from severe senile dementia.
We visited Mr. C today. He is also 80+ and suffering from senile dementia with distinct mental deterioration. He is bad-tempered. Constantly scolding his wife, sometimes with vulgar words. Throwing cups and plates when not happy. He chased his son-in-law away. He is no more his usual self.
His wife gets the brunt of his fury.
最近探访了两个老人。
M 老太年已八十出，最近因严重气喘，被孩子送进一家老人院。
她独居，身体还算健康，精神机警，还能够照顾自己。但最近常常有头晕的状况，她的孩子只好送她进入这间老人院，希望能够得到更好的照顾。
这是一间私人开始的老人院，住着六十多位老人，大都有着医药状况，例如中风 、截肢 、半身不遂 、坐在轮椅上 、躺在床上的 、和患有老人痴呆症者。老人们彼此之间有摩擦，争执等，也是常事。
这里可以说是打理的很好，干净，有许多菲律宾工人在此工作。但它的环境不适合那些头脑还机警，能自己走动的老人居住。M 老太在此已经住了两个月，在我们探访她时，哭诉盼望着能够回家。
她的孩子两天前接她回家过新年。她发誓不要再到回这里来。其实我心里也在想，我真的不愿意自己被送到这个地方来，除非我得了严重的老人痴呆健忘症。
今天我们也去探望了C 老先生。他也是八十多岁了，患上老人痴呆症，并有非常显著的脑力衰退。他变的脾气暴躁，常常咒骂他的太太，有时更用粗暴 、臭话来呼喝她。在他发脾气的时候，还丢掷杯碟。他甚至驱赶他的女婿。他已经不是以往的他了。
他的太太成为他的出气筒。

For new year...过新年
我找到了一个新妈妈。
她就是溪水信女的妈妈。我要叫她妈妈，因为她做的美食佳肴，太吸引我了，从肚子暖到了心头。我从溪水信女的部落格转载了这个帖子，看到了她妈妈将在新年要做的新年菜谱，包你也要叫她“妈妈”。
可惜我新年要下新山去见我另一位妈妈（岳母大人），不然，我的气车方向盘一定会指定到“北方妈妈”那里过年！

年初一，清晨，早餐必须享用的汤圆 (First day of new year must eat Tangyuan)
大家参加弥撒，祭祖，然后到坟场后，回家吃午餐，会是以下的餐谱：
潮州咸菜汤
(lunch- salted vege soup)
卤鸭：通常是两只，一只是妈妈弄的潮州式，另一只是二嫂煮客家式。
(Lo duck: one Teow Chew style, one Hakka style)
潮州蒸鱼 (TeowChew steamed fish)
杂菜：五颜六色，四季美景 (mixed vege)
五香肉卷 (spring rolls)
虾姑(cray fish or flat slipper lobster)
亚山糕虾 (Asam prawns)
槟城Laksa:已在10年前成了我家的年菜，来拜年的亲戚朋友都知道，甚至不客气先说好要吃Laksa，通常妈妈是煮了一大锅，真的是很大很大的锅，可以吃上几天。
Bunga kantan, daun kesum, daun pudina是槟城Laksa其中主要菜料
母亲最拿手的Achar很考功夫的噢，我至今无法掌握及控制烫菜的速度，因此Achar并不是母亲煮得即香又脆
潮州甜品：芋泥
还有母亲会亲手裹粽子。因为端午节孩子都在外，在春节庆典后，她就裹粽子给在怡保的大儿子，媳妇与孙女们，给在新加坡的二儿子，媳妇及女儿，给三儿子，他太太及女儿，还有当然给我这个女儿啦！所以我们将是满载而归，除了各式各样的年饼糕点，我们还有香美的粽子。
每 次想起妈妈，她真正是最佳厨师，还会融合各家的特别佳肴，无论是潮州食，马来食或是传统的糕点，她，懂得突破局限，粽子，汤圆也可在其季节外享用。爱使她 更富想象力，爱跨越一切；难怪圣师奥思定说：爱，然后做你喜欢做的。Love, and do what you wish!因为爱会教你你所不懂，所不敢做的。难怪很多亲戚朋友都喜欢上我家......。
忘了说：除了妈妈，大哥大嫂，二嫂，最近加入阵容的是妹妹及侄女都会争先恐后要展现身手煮几道年菜给全家人享用。最新的策划是年初一过后，大家可以配合煮一餐。当然，较年轻的一代通常就煮西餐了。
许多朋友听到这事都很羡慕，因为很少，真的很少人喜欢下橱做饭了。
我家妈妈够富创意吧！她可以把一年四季佳节在同一个时候，大家，一起，庆祝！她只期盼孩子，媳妇，孙子可以开心饱飨她的爱心餐。
回家，是过年，也是为团圆，为爱。
期待，期待新年快来！
